The vision will soon become reality: urban roads are set to see more and more electric vehicles – from small scooters to trucks weighing 7.5 metric tons. A driver of innovation, Bosch develops electric powertrain systems such as the e-axle. In doing so, Bosch makes electromobility attractive to the mass market and more economically viable for manufacturers: thanks to their scalability, the systems are easy to integrate and can be used flexibly in many vehicle classes. Costs and development times are reduced as a result, which helps bring new vehicles to market more quickly. This enables new manufacturers – from the start-up scene in particular – to launch electromobility products in the shortest time possible.

Bosch has already delivered more than 30 electromobility production projects in collaboration with automakers based all over the world. Electric vehicles such as Deutsche Post’s StreetScooter run on Bosch powertrain systems and are set to revolutionize our roads. And this is only the start: according to Bosch estimates, nearly 20 million hybrid and electric vehicles will be produced in the year 2025. Bosch is accelerating electrification with ever more efficient and economical solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Nikola One and Nikola Two

For the electric heavy-duty trucks Nikola One and Nikola Two with a class 8 hydrogen powertrain system Bosch develops in cooperation with Nikola Motors - a start-up from Salt Lake City - a new efficient electric drive: the world's first eAxle for heavy-duty trucks.

eCity Truck

Bosch has developed a powertrain system for urban delivery vehicles of up to 7.5 metric tons with range of approximately 200 km. This enables efficient deliveries that do not disturb local residents with excessive noise.

StreetScooter

Germany’s postal service operates the largest fleet of electric vehicles in Europe, making it a pioneer of electric transportation for deliveries in urban areas. The StreetScooter runs on a powertrain system from Bosch.

Light electric vehicles

Thanks to their agility, electric powertrains are ideal for scooters and compact cars. Iconic brands such as Schwalbe Scooters and start-ups like e.Go Mobile draw on Bosch’s expertise. Both companies rely on the scalable 48-volt powertrain system, which works well with connected solutions such as a digital display and an app for mobile devices.

Electrifying the axle: Extending range and cutting costs

Efficiency, low development costs, and quick market maturity are well within reach thanks to Bosch’s electric axle. The eAxle integrates the motor, power electronics, and transmission in a single unit – a concept referred to by manufacturers as the all-in-one principle. The resulting synergies reduce costs, save time, and, in turn, increase efficiency. For example, the motor and inverter share the same cooling circuit, eliminating the need for costly copper cables running between the two components. What’s more, the versatile eAxle is suitable for a range of different vehicles thanks to its scalability. As a result, it functions as a kind of “start-up powertrain” for electric vehicles – even for established manufacturers.

Second-to-none smartphone connectivity: Find free charge spots with Bosch

Charging apps are Bosch Software Innovations’ answer to a big problem: drivers of electric vehicles often have to register with multiple different charge spot operators to charge their cars. Thanks to the charging app, that is now a thing of the past. The idea: 20,000 charge spots, 20 networks, 10 countries, and one app. Using the app lets customers access everything they need in one place and conveniently pay for the charging process. With this solution, Bosch is making the charging infrastructure even more user-friendly. Integrating the application into the vehicle display is a further step towards achieving holistic connectivity for mobility solutions.
