Surround sensors ease this situation by detecting cyclists alongside and ahead of the vehicle, monitoring speed, distance, and direction of travel to calculate the potential risk of an accident. In the case of an imminent collision, the system automatically brings the vehicle to a stop in order to avoid or at least reduce the severity of the accident. Estimations indicate that this could eliminate or at least reduce the severity of almost half of road accidents involving cyclists and cars.

If the vehicle is parked longitudinally, the car door is opened without checking the side mirrors and looking over each shoulder and a cyclist approaches from behind at high speed, this can be very dangerous.
