The process runs in a closed system without an external network connection as the field sprayer crosses the field.

Then the software selects the field sprayer nozzles that are above the weed. Just a few hundred milliseconds pass between recognizing and spraying the weed.

Keeping an eye on things while operating heavy agricultural machinery can be challenging – on and off the field. Therefore, Bosch provides a surround-sensing system that enables completely new perspectives on the work – for greater safety, comfort, and performance. The modular solution can be used on nearly any agricultural machine and also supports machine operators in many other industries, for example when operating construction machinery or industrial trucks.

Object recognition and process optimization with Bosch OHW surround sensors

Whether due to worldwide population growth or climate change, efficient agriculture is already becoming more and more important today. Intelligently employed surround sensors can contribute to supporting agricultural processes on machinery and making them more efficient. Bosch already provides initial sensor technology optimized for use on mobile machines.

General purpose radar 2.0 was designed for use on mobile machines. The range of up to 70 m and the beam angle of up to 42° not only ensure an excellent visual range, the smart sensor also reduces disruptive ground reflections to a minimum and allows for filtering of the objects relevant for the individual use case.

The USS 6.5 OR ultrasound system is composed of up to 12 sensors and a central control unit. It delivers reliable object recognition in a range of up to 5 m from the mobile machines and is therefore exceedingly suitable for covering blind spots and the vicinity of the machinery. With accurate detection of object distances that are exact down to the centimeter, the sensor also offers the possibility of ongoing distance measurements. This is suitable, for example, for remaining within the lane between grapevines or regulating the height of field sprayers.

Farmers know the challenges of working with large machines: they are slower on the road than cars, bulkier, and at the same time harder to maneuver. The Bosch Off-Highway Vision System supports drivers in many ways.

It consists primarily of a 360° view full-HD system with four cameras and a control unit. The system enables an optimal all-around view of the machine, the implement, and the surroundings, despite limited viewing conditions. It also provides a high-resolution and detailed top view of the vehicle, assisting with safe and quick maneuvering even in the narrowest fields.

All of this is supplemented by the opportunity to integrate additional variable and application-oriented sensors such as the off-highway ultrasound system [USS 6.5 OR] and off-highway radar sensors [general purpose radar GPR 2.0], which have been optimized by Bosch for off-highway use. Objects recognized by the radar or ultrasound system are optically highlighted in the live image of the 360° camera system. This allows objects, obstacles, and people in the machine's danger zone to be detected in time and accidents prevented.
