In order to reduce the pollutant content of the exhaust gas, the engine control unit requires current measured data from the exhaust tract. This is supplied by the wideband lambda sensor for gasoline and diesel engines. Thanks to its precise determination of the residual oxygen content, the ECU can optimize the fuel mixture accordingly. In this way, the lambda sensor contributes to the reduction of exhaust-gas emissions and compliance with new emissions and on-board diagnostic requirements.
