Gas admission valve LEGV 50 has a geometric cross-section of 50 mm2 and generates up to 150 kW of power per cylinder.
The gas admission valve is positioned on the inlet duct of each engine cylinder. The valves are connected to the engine control unit for control purposes. When the gas engine is operating or the dual-fuel engine is operating in gas mode, the control unit regulates the valve during each cylinder cycle, whereby the gas valve opens and gas is injected into the inlet duct upstream of each cylinder.
The gas/air mixture then enters the combustion chamber through the intake valves on the cylinder and is ignited by an electrical spark ignition or a pilot ignition system. The high homogeneity of the gas/air mixture is decisive for optimal combustion. Selecting the right valve size and flow rate are crucial in achieving a high degree of homogeneity.
