Inertial sensors are used to measure translational and rotational accelerations. By combining several inertial sensors in an inertial measurement unit, the accelerations and rotations around the three axes can be measured in six dimensions while driving. Consequently, a inertial measurement unit can be used for a multitude of automotive applications as well as for future advanced driver assistance systems functions and automated driving.
