Compact packaging and high efficiency
The VPG transmission pump consists of the housing, cover, end plate, shaft and a rotor set. The rotor set consists of the rotor, radial vanes installed in the rotor, the cam ring and the outer ring. The cam ring of the VPG is mounted eccentrically and hydraulically adjustable. The VPG operates like an constant-volume automatic transmission pump up to a defined control point. The flow rate is determined by the defined geometric delivery volume and the pump speed. At the control point, the geometric delivery volume is reduced by adjustment of the cam ring to match the defined flow rate. The control point can be defined either by an external controller (e.g. automatic transmission control unit) or an internal controller. The control unit is integrated into the pump. In comparison to a constant-volume automatic transmission pump, the reduced pump delivery volume once the control point is reached translates into lower power consumption. As a result of the lower power consumption, the system temperature is reduced as well.
Variants
The engineering and design allow the pump to be used as a cartridge (without pump housing) in the existing automatic transmission housing or mounted in its own housing in the automatic transmission.
