The Bosch proving ground Flat Rock offers many opportunities for vehicle testing due to the different test tracks.
High-speed bank
The high-speed bank is designed for tests in a speed range up to 120 km/h (75 mph). It is provided with three lanes (width 3.65 m / 12 ft each) and a hard shoulder (width 3 m / 10 ft). The banking angle is 2.5° – 30°; innermost radius 83.5 m / 274 ft. The standard driving direction is clockwise. A special crash barrier (closed at the bottom) surrounds the complete high-speed bank and enables motorcycles to use this track.
Vehicle-dynamics area
The 22 acre vehicle-dynamics area is constructed of asphalt without gaps. Overall diameter is 131 m / 430 ft. On this area, braking maneuvers, lane changes, J-turns, driving in a circle or slalom driving can take place. For driving in a circle, markings are provided with radii of 20 m / 65.6 ft, 30 m / 98.4 ft, 50 m / 164 ft, 75 m / 246 ft, 100 m / 328 ft. In addition, the circular area is provided with markings for a handling track and for the various standard lane changes.
Hydroplane area
This is where electronic systems prove their resistance to sprays and splashes of water and where aquaplane testing is performed.
Brake tests can be carried out on the floodable brake-measurement tracks with various road surfaces and friction coefficients.
ESP® area
The multi-functional area has a size of 434 m / 1,425 ft x 107 m / 350 ft and can be used for many vehicle tests. This includes various friction coefficient surfaces and a traction control circle.
Hill grade tracks (10 % to 30 %)
The uphill tracks are intended for the testing of traction control systems and for tests on downhill braking.
Special surfaces
Rough road tracks put suspension and electronics through a hard test. The track provides different road surfaces and is suitable for speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph).
The proving ground’s diverse installations and facilities enable you to perform comprehensive testing programs in a minimum of time. Garages are available for the preparation of vehicles and maintenance work. Also, for conferences, offices and conference rooms are available
Provision is made for groups from 3 to 25 persons, either in the conference room with its presentation technology, or in additional offices and meeting rooms.
