Characteristics of the multi-camera system
The 3D surround view of the multi-camera system sets new standards and offers several advantages – thanks to a highly sophisticated video-based object detection. The 360 degree surround view and the automatic, real-time tracking shot always provide the driver seamlessly with the best perspective. In addition, the multi-camera system generates a realistic, animated 3D vehicle model that provides the driver with an impressive, detailed picture of the vehicle’s environment. This makes automated parking and parking assist functions easier and safer.
The modular approach of the new generation of the multi-camera system covers various customer requirements and performance levels with a control unit, near-range cameras with a resolution of 1 or 2 megapixels and optionally ultrasonic sensors. Lite variants of the system integrate two or four cameras depending on the camera resolution.
Automated and assisted parking functions can be realized robustly with the help of the multi-camera system as sensor data fusion increases the understanding of the vehicle’s surrounding and thus improves parking functions like the (remote) park assist or the home zone park assist. When it comes to parking and maneuvering assistance, the multi-camera system can also provide trailer assistance to the driver: It eases coupling the trailer by providing a specific view on the tow coupling and supports the driver when reversing with the trailer by taking over lateral control of the vehicle.
